The BMW Group stated it would be the to start with automotive manufacturer to equip its cars and trucks with tyres applying certified sustainable pure rubber and rayon, a wood-based mostly material applied to improve the tyres.
The automaker will resource 22-inch tyres from Pirelli and, from August 2021, will use them on the X5 xDrive45e Plug-in-Hybrid.
Certification of the rubber plantations and the elaborate offer chain for pure rubber and rayon can take place in accordance with the rigid requirements of the independent Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), BMW stated.
