The Highway Code has been up-to-date to provide clearer advice for motorists working with motorways and to make improvements to normal street basic safety.
Principles have been up-to-date to emphasise that motorists require to get sufficient sleep ahead of embarking on a prolonged journey, whilst motorists are reminded that unexpected emergency refuge locations and hard shoulders are not ideal areas to stop for a relaxation break or any other non-unexpected emergency motive.
Motorists have also been reminded that they should not push in lanes wherever a pink X symbol is displayed on the overhead gantry – a rule that is now enforced by cameras. If a motorway exit can only be accessed by crossing as a result of a lane with a pink X previously mentioned it, then motorists should look at that exit closed and not test to flip off.
New pictures have also been included to the Highway Code to support motorists recognize what the variable velocity restrict indications shown on wise motorways look like.
In addition to this, further info has been offered on tailgating, which includes what it is and why it is harmful. Motorists are reminded that the law enforcement will enforce harmful or careless driving offences if a person is caught tailgating.
The AA welcomed the up-to-date Highway Code, with the organisation’s president Edmund King expressing it “gives terrific steerage on how to hold motorists and other individuals safe on our roads”.
